“3000: The Pre-Proposal”

Date: Between Thanksgiving 2018 and May 5th 2019

Story 3000…..S/o to the Marvel fans 😉 Nick again, here to give you the details of my journey from the point I knew Evelyn was the one to the day I popped the question. I got to admit, it took me a while to know for sure how I would be asking her.

For this story, we will be focusing more on everything besides my thought process of how I was going to propose to Evelyn. What that means? Well, you’ll just have to keep on reading to find out. Just try not to get the wrong idea just like Iron Man may have when he saw Dr. Strange pick up 1 finger…jk jk…just a little joke of course. And before reading on, please read through “She’s the Chosen One: A Nick Story” before continuing on. It’ll flow better that way.

Assuming you did read the one before this…Soon after knowing Evelyn was the one, I went straight to telling my mom and immediate family. Exactly how many days it took me to go to them, not exactly sure but I know it was fairly quick. When I went to my mom personally, I had a crazy idea that most people would probably not agree with me on. I asked for her marriage ring…the thing is, my mom and dad have been separated for as long as I can remember (I know “mala suerte” lol).

Of course, I had a reason for doing this. About 5% of the reason was the fact I was in my last semester of college with no job so no money which means I wasn’t going to be able to buy a ring. I bet some of you can relate :p But the other 95% of the reason was because what it stood for. My family unfortunately has a history of separation and divorce, and I grew up with the idea that when the time came, I would change that paradigm. And to top it off, my mom is my hero. The amount she did for me and my siblings is what made her different from so many.

I wanted my mom’s ring because I wanted it to represent the fact that 1) the past does not define us and 2) my mom’s strong, tough, and courageous journey through life is the reason why I’m able to experience a blessing that is marriage.

The news also made it to my lifelong friends from high school and her family as well. Now I know what you may be thinking….”Did you ask her parent’s for her hand in marriage?” I sure did. The challenge was that they spoke and understood almost nothing but Spanish, and I could not hold a conversation in Spanish to save my life. You see my issue? But as the avengers assemble to save the world, Evelyn’s sister came to my rescue.

She helped me out by setting up a “sister’s night out” for spring break so that way I could be alone at their place while visiting and Evelyn wouldn’t be there to listen….it would just be me and her parents. So the race was on, I practiced from January to spring break 2019 a script in Spanish I created until I was able to memorize it all 100%. The credits for that script goes out to Google Translate. Anyways, when the time came, I was extremely nervous, but thanks to all the practice, it was second nature to speak the words from my script. I “acted out” a 4-5 minute script flawlessly.

My only regret is that I didn’t record it because her dad’s expression was hilarious. He heard me speak more Spanish in those few minutes than he had heard me say since knowing me (which had been about 10 months). He even laughed in surprise. Oh well, at least I’ll forever remember that moment. And spoiler alert, they were very accepting and happy of the news…I really wish I could put emoji’s on this…the faces I keep using are boring hahaha

Now that you know the behind the scenes chisme, it was time for me to start thinking of how I would be asking her? Truth be told, I was thinking about it during this, but no plan really stuck. I’ll stop spoiling and save the tea for “The Proposal” blog so until next time, bye

P.S. If you’re reading this Evelyn, I love you 3000
